Who We Are
Shishu Shakthi is a non-profit trust set up in 2005 that works with children from the slums of Chennai. Children have the power in them to change the future of the world. Thus the name is very apt.
Shishu Shakthi is involved in sponsoring and educating over 200 under-privileged children in Chennai and surrounding districts. We believe that education is the best way to empower children. Our dream is straight-forward: empower every child to realise his or her dream. Through education, every child builds their self worth, which in turn allows them to give fuel to their in-born talent, ultimately securing their future.
Shishu Shakthi was founded by two friends Soundarya Srinivasan and S. Jayalakshmi who while working closely as volunteers with the children of the Juvenile Home realised that in their your own small way as youngsters they can go a long way in shaping the future of under-privileged children. The organisation has now grown as a team and has more trustees: Bhavna Rao, Sruti Hari and passionate volunteers who help with projects.
Our vision has always been to ensure that bright children do not miss their education because of affordability. We believe in working closely with communities and slums of Chennai as change needs to start there to reflect on the society as a whole. This passionate outlook and the want to make a difference to the society gave birth to ‘Shishu Shakthi’

Impact Stories
Bhuvaneshwari has been with us since 10th grade
Serendipity bought her to Shishu Shakthi. Bhuvaneshwari has been with Shishu Shakthi since her 10th grade and we have been happy to support her in her journey of education. She has now graduated in first class and has been placed too.
The boy we met as a 13 year old is travelling the world
Manikandan has been with Shishu Shakthi since 8th grade. He has matured Into a smart and intelligent boy with a Diploma in Nautical Sciences and has now been sent to Hong Kong to set sail on his very first ship experience from there. He is the first in his family to even leave Tamil Nadu and get a Passport.
This boy is still going strong in his work and going places. Can’t believe the boy we met in Rotary Nagar as a bright 13 year old is travelling across the world on his job and making all of us proud. Read his story in our post, we promise it’s worth your time.
